Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What To Do About IT

Small business owners and entrepreneurs start here!

This is a must read book instrumental to creating a remarkable small business.

The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What To Do About It, by Michael E. Gerber.

This book is about awakening the entrepreneur in you and building your company to deliver the intended results to the intended people. It is an invaluable read for any small business owner just starting out or looking to turn an existing business into a great company.

The author’s premise is that most business owners are not really entrepreneurs (the “e” in e-myth). Most small business owners create a job for themselves, they do not build a business that delivers desired results to whom they were intended as a successful entrepreneur does. Most small business owners are stuck in their beliefs and routine and have no idea how to become an entrepreneur, they become miserable and trapped by their own creation.

I found myself in this position several years ago. I had created a job for myself (and a few others) and was trapped working endless hours in my business (job) when I needed to be building my company by working on the business. This book set me straight on the idea of building a company and how to do it, helping me build a World-Class IT Company.

I have E-Myth Revisited on audio books now and still listen to it at least once a year as a refresher; It was written 20 years ago and has not lost a bit of relevance.

You can read the first chapter here: The E-Myth Revisited Chapter 1

Book Description: Publication Date: March 3, 1995

In this first new and totally revised edition of the 150,000-copy underground bestseller, The E-Myth, Michael E. Gerber dispels the myths surrounding starting your own business and shows how commonplace assumptions can get in the way of running a business. He walks you through the steps in the life of a business from entrepreneurial infancy, through adolescent growing pains, to the mature entrepreneurial perspective, the guiding light of all businesses that succeed. He then shows how to apply the lessons of franchising to any business whether or not it is a franchise. Finally, Gerber draws the vital, often overlooked distinction between working ON your business and working IN your business. After you have read The E-Myth Revisited, you will truly be able to grow your business in a predictable and productive way.

I also enjoyed watching this Michael Gerber in the dreaming room (video) on YouTube with Michael “shedding some light” on an entrepreneur’s dream.

I hope you get as much from the book as I did.
